A Clarinet

The A clarinet is a single-reed woodwind instrument pitched a minor third lower than the more common B-flat clarinet, producing a slightly darker, warmer tone. It is a standard part of the orchestral clarinetist's toolkit, used specifically for pieces written in keys that lie more comfortably on the A instrument, such as much of Mozart's and Brahms's chamber and orchestral music.
