Collegiate Shag

Collegiate Shag is a fast-paced, syncopated partner dance that originated in the late 1920s and 1930s, closely tied to the swing era and popular at beach resorts and college campuses in the Carolinas, where it remains linked to Carolina beach music. It's characterized by quick footwork, close upright partner connection, and a distinctive bouncy rhythm danced to fast swing or jazz tempos. Today it's kept alive by vintage dance communities and swing dance societies who teach it at workshops and social dance events.
