Carolina Shag

A partner dance that developed along the beaches of the Carolinas in the mid-20th century, danced primarily to beach music and R&B/swing-tempo songs. It is characterized by smooth, low-to-the-ground footwork and a signature basic step, with the upper body staying relatively still while the feet do intricate shuffling patterns. It is the official state dance of both North Carolina and South Carolina and remains popular at beach music clubs and dance socials.
