Go-Go

Go-go is a genre of funk-derived music and an associated dance style that originated in Washington, D.C. in the late 1970s, characterized by syncopated, continuous percussion grooves and call-and-response interaction between performers and the crowd. It emerged as a distinctly regional sound, pioneered by musician Chuck Brown, and remains a strong element of D.C.'s local music culture and identity. Fans and dancers are drawn to its live, percussive energy and its roots in African American community celebration.
