Collar-and-Elbow

Collar-and-elbow is a style of folk wrestling that originated in Ireland, in which competitors begin a match by gripping one hand on the opponent's collar and the other on their elbow, a starting position designed to neutralize size and strength advantages. Brought to the United States by Irish immigrants in the 19th century, it became one of the most popular American wrestling styles of that era and directly influenced the development of modern American folkstyle and catch wrestling.
