Battōjutsu
Battōjutsu is a Japanese martial art discipline focused on the technique of drawing the sword from its scabbard and cutting in a single fluid motion, historically developed by samurai for surprise combat situations. It emphasizes speed, precision, and proper form in the draw, cut, and re-sheathing of the katana, and is closely related to iaijutsu and the modern sport of iaido. Practitioners today train in it as a form of traditional martial arts discipline, often using test-cutting (tameshigiri) on rolled mats or bamboo to gauge blade technique.
