Glima

Glima is a traditional Nordic form of folk wrestling, historically practiced in Iceland and other Scandinavian countries, in which opponents grip a special belt or harness around the waist and thighs and attempt to throw each other to the ground using trips and holds. It has roots going back to the Viking Age and is preserved today largely in Iceland as a competitive and cultural sport. Practitioners value it for its connection to Norse heritage as much as its athletic challenge.
