Chitarra Battente
The chitarra battente is a traditional Italian folk guitar, smaller than a standard classical guitar, featuring a slightly domed back, a fixed metal-string bridge, and steel or brass strings that give it a bright, percussive tone. Its name (meaning 'beating guitar') reflects the vigorous, rhythmic strumming technique used to play it, often struck with fingers or a plectrum against the strings and soundboard simultaneously. It is closely tied to the folk music of Southern Italy, including tarantella dance music from Calabria, Campania, and Puglia.
