Bowed Psaltery

The bowed psaltery is a small, triangular or teardrop-shaped stringed instrument played by drawing a bow across its strings, which are arranged so each note can be reached from either side. Unlike its ancestor the plucked psaltery, it produces a sustained, singing tone similar to a violin, and is popular among folk musicians for its simplicity and portability. It requires no prior musical training to begin playing basic melodies, making it a favorite for hobbyist and folk music circles.
