Berimbau

The berimbau is a single-string percussion instrument consisting of a wooden bow, a metal string, and a gourd resonator, played by striking the string with a stick while a coin or stone is pressed against it to alter pitch. It is the central instrument in capoeira, the Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance, where its rhythm dictates the pace and style of play in the roda (circle).
