Texas Opened 540 New Roles This Week, Down 41
Texas saw 540 roles open this week across the employer job boards Career App tracks, down from 581 the week before. That is 41 fewer roles, a drop of about 7.1%, and it came in a week when the overall count moved the other way: 8,605 new roles this week against 8,503 the prior week, up 102, or 1.2%. (The comparison counts only boards we were already tracking before it began, so adding a board can't inflate the change.)

Texas still sits behind only California in new roles this week, and it accounted for 6.3% of everything that opened, down from 6.8% a week earlier. You can see the current Texas listings on the Jobs in Texas page.
The decline is not unique to Texas
Of the twelve states with the most new roles this week, six posted fewer than the week before and six posted more. Texas belongs to a cluster of large states that all slipped by a similar margin:
- California: 792, down from 859 (-67)
- Texas: 540, down from 581 (-41)
- New York: 466, down from 500 (-34)
- Tennessee: 231, down from 269 (-38)
- Ohio: 228, down from 258 (-30)
The week's gains came from elsewhere. Indiana jumped to 190 from 118, the largest proportional move on the list at roughly 61%. Florida added 88 roles to reach 420, Georgia added 39 to reach 193, Michigan added 40 to reach 239, and Illinois added 28 to reach 215. North Carolina (219) and Massachusetts (186) were close to flat. Plenty of other states had roles open this week too; this list is the twelve with the most, not a map of where the work is.

Who was hiring
Employer counts in our weekly view are totals across every board we read, not splits by state, so these are the names driving the week overall rather than a Texas-only ranking. U.S. Bank led with 387 new roles and 993 open listings. Ranger Boats followed with 296 new and 747 open, then Meijer at 272 new, Tyson Foods at 264, and Cleveland Clinic at 260 new against 902 open.
The rest of the top ten: JLL (214 new, 335 open), Citigroup (212 new, 493 open), Marriott International (205 new, 257 open), Longs Drugs (200 new, 216 open), and Lifepoint Hospitals (176 new, 348 open). Banking, grocery and food processing, hospitals, hotels and commercial real estate: that mix is the backdrop against which Texas lost 41 roles.
The wider picture
There are 59,934 open listings on the site today from 679 employers hiring. Against 8,605 roles opening in the last seven days, 10,287 closed. Closures trail the employer taking a role down by about a week, since we only see one when we next re-read that board, so the gap is not a same-day comparison.
Remote roles made up 6% of what opened this week. Daily movement for every state is on the US hiring trends page, and the full set of current listings is on the job search.
