Varzesh-E Pahlavani

Varzesh-e Pahlavani (also called Varzesh-e Bastani) is a traditional Iranian system of athletics and martial arts practiced in a domed hall called a zurkhaneh ("house of strength"). Participants perform ritualized strength exercises—swinging heavy wooden clubs (meels), shields, and bows—accompanied by drumming and recitation of Persian poetry, blending physical training with spiritual and ethical discipline. It is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Iran.
