Greek Wrestling

Greek wrestling, or pale, was a combat sport practiced in ancient Greece and included as one of the original events of the ancient Olympic Games. Competitors, who wrestled oiled and often nude, aimed to throw their opponent to the ground three times to win, using holds, trips, and throws similar in spirit to later Greco-Roman wrestling. It held major cultural significance in Greek athletic and educational life, seen as both a sport and a form of physical and moral training.
