Tubax

The tubax is a modern brass-bodied woodwind instrument, essentially a compact contrabass or sub-contrabass saxophone, developed in the late 1990s by German instrument maker Benedikt Eppelsheim. It plays the same range as a contrabass saxophone but in a smaller, more manageable folded form, and is used mainly in jazz, contemporary classical, and experimental music for its extremely low, powerful sound. It appeals to saxophonists seeking the deep register of a contrabass sax without the instrument's unwieldy size.
