Steelpan

The steelpan (or steel drum) is a percussion instrument originating in Trinidad and Tobago, made from a hammered and tuned steel oil drum whose surface is sectioned into notes that produce distinct pitches when struck with rubber-tipped mallets. It is the centerpiece of Caribbean steelbands and calypso/soca music, and its invention is celebrated as a defining contribution of 20th-century Trinidadian culture.
