Piano

The piano is a large keyboard instrument in which pressing keys causes felt-covered hammers to strike metal strings, producing sound that is dampened when the key is released. Invented around 1700 by Bartolomeo Cristofori, it became central to Western classical, jazz, and popular music due to its wide dynamic range and versatility for solo playing and accompaniment. It remains one of the most widely studied instruments, valued for teaching music theory and harmony as well as performance.
