Jōdō
Jōdō is a Japanese martial art centered on techniques using the jō, a short wooden staff roughly four feet long, traditionally practiced against an opponent wielding a sword. Developed from the Shintō Musō-ryū tradition, it emphasizes timing, distance, and fluid strikes, blocks, and thrusts rather than brute force. Practitioners today train it both as a traditional koryu art and as a modern sport with standardized kata and sparring formats overseen by organizations like the International Jodo Federation.
