Dambe
Dambe is a traditional form of boxing practiced by the Hausa people of Nigeria and neighboring West African countries, historically fought by itinerant butchers and traveling laborers. Fighters wrap one fist tightly in cloth or cord (the 'spear' hand) while using the other as a shielding hand, and matches also permit kicks, making it a striking sport distinct from Western boxing. Bouts are held with drumming, chanting, and ritual elements, and the sport has more recently gained a modern competitive league and media coverage in Nigeria.
