Ektara

The ektara is a one-stringed plucked drone instrument used in traditional folk music across India and Bangladesh, especially by wandering minstrels such as Bauls. It consists of a gourd or bamboo resonator with a single string that is plucked to produce a rhythmic drone accompaniment while the musician sings devotional or mystical songs. Its name means "one string" in several South Asian languages.
