Dhime

The dhime (also spelled dhimay) is a traditional cylindrical drum played by the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, typically struck on both ends with sticks or hands during religious processions, festivals, and dances. It produces a deep, resonant sound central to Newar devotional and festival music, especially during events like Indra Jatra. It is passed down through community and family musical traditions rather than formal institutional instruction.
