North Carolina Job Postings Nearly Tripled This Week: 230 New Roles vs 80

North Carolina picked up 230 new postings in the last seven days across the employer job boards we track, against 80 the week before. That is a 187% jump — the steepest week-over-week gain of any of the twelve states with openings in our index, and more than three times the national pace.

For scale, North Carolina still ranks seventh by raw volume this week, behind California (945), Texas (592), Florida (431), New York (419), Tennessee (263) and Ohio (262). What separates it is the direction and the size of the move: no other state on the list came close to tripling.

Against a strong national week

The whole board moved up. Across everything we crawl, 10,761 roles opened in the past seven days against 6,833 the prior week, a 57% increase. Those figures cover only boards we were already tracking before the comparison window, so a newly onboarded employer can't masquerade as a hiring boom.

So North Carolina's gain is not happening in isolation — but it is running roughly three times hotter than the national week. Florida (+114%) and Massachusetts (+110%) were the only other states to double. At the other end, Illinois added 182 against 169, essentially flat, and Pennsylvania moved 159 to 190.

One note of caution on the longer arc: the 30-day picture is softer than the weekly one. We logged 28,236 new roles in the last 30 days versus 30,135 in the 30 before that. And 20,628 listings closed in the past seven days against the 10,761 that opened, so the overall pool is shrinking even in a week when new postings surged. Total open listings stand at 58,371 from 686 employers hiring.

The employers doing the posting

Employer counts in this week's data are site-wide rather than split by state, but the names at the top say a lot about what kind of hiring is driving the week. VF Corporation led with 654 new roles and 897 open in total — the largest single-employer push of the week, and one with deep North Carolina roots. Behind it:

• AdventHealth — 559 new, 991 open
• Cleveland Clinic — 320 new, 885 open
• Citigroup — 313 new, 472 open
• U.S. Bank — 298 new, 1,010 open
• Tyson Foods — 238 new, 606 open
• Target — 228 new, 679 open
• Lifepoint Hospitals — 216 new, 361 open
• JLL — 211 new, 373 open
• Stryker Corporation — 196 new, 759 open

That list is retail, apparel, hospital systems, banking, food production and commercial real estate — not tech. The white-collar tech titles we track by occupation actually shrank this week: Software Engineer postings fell to 19 from 48, and Product Manager to 11 from 16. Remote roles made up just 3% of everything posted in the last seven days.

Skills attached to the week's postings

Python topped the skill tags with 29 new listings, followed by Salesforce at 21, Microsoft Excel at 20 and SQL at 18. These are small counts against a 10,761-role week — only a fraction of postings carry parsed skill tags — so read them as a rough ranking, not a census.
