Ohio Added 249 New Job Postings This Week, Up 59% From the Prior Week

Ohio picked up 249 new job postings in the last seven days across the employer job boards we track, against 157 the week before. That is a gain of 92 roles, or 58.6% week over week.

The national week was strong too — 10,459 new postings across all tracked boards, up from 7,163, a 46% increase. Ohio beat that pace, which nudged its share of all new postings from 2.2% to 2.4%. Small movement, but in the right direction.

Where Ohio sits in the pack

Ohio ranked fifth by new postings this week among the 12 states with openings on our boards, just ahead of Tennessee at 244 and behind Florida at 436. The top four were California at 983, Texas at 621, New York at 495, and Florida.

The ranking has been stable — Ohio was fifth last week as well, on 157 new roles.

Growth rate, not just volume

On percentage change, Ohio landed in the middle of the pack: seventh of twelve. New York more than doubled its new-posting count (+116%), California added 93%, Florida 93%, and Massachusetts 90%. Ohio's 58.6% sat above Tennessee (+56%), Texas (+55%), North Carolina (+43%), Illinois (+39%) and Minnesota (+25%).

Every one of the twelve states grew week over week. That is the main story here: this was a broad up-week across the boards we crawl, not an Ohio-specific event. Ohio simply did a little better than average inside it.

What was posting

Our employer and occupation counts are board-wide rather than split by state, so read this as the national backdrop Ohio's 249 roles came out of.

The heaviest posters this week were VF Corporation with 654 new roles (897 open), AdventHealth with 559 (991 open), and Ranger Boats with 527 (732 open). Cleveland Clinic was fourth with 320 new roles and 885 open in total — the largest health system on the list after AdventHealth. Stryker Corporation posted 196 new roles against 759 open, and U.S. Bank carried the biggest open book of any employer we track at 1,010.

By occupation, Software Engineer dominated the week with 63 new postings, up from 11 the prior week. Nothing else came close: Product Manager had 17, and Engineering Manager, Sales Associate, Sales Manager and Operations Manager tied at 11 each. Accountant and Program Manager each posted 10, both up from 1 a week earlier.

On skills, Python led with 84 mentions in new postings, followed by Salesforce at 53, SQL at 50 and Microsoft Excel at 49. Inventory Management showed up 23 times — a reminder that the week's volume is not all software.

The wider frame

Zoom out and the picture cools off. Over the last 30 days the boards we track logged 28,720 new postings versus 29,418 in the prior 30 — down slightly. And 19,759 listings closed in the last seven days against 10,459 opened, so total inventory shrank even in a strong posting week. Open listings stand at 58,138 from 686 employers hiring.

Remote roles were 4% of everything new this week, so Ohio job seekers looking at these 249 postings should expect the large majority to be on-site.
