Minnesota Added 209 New Job Postings This Week, Up From 121, But Hiring Slipped

Minnesota picked up 209 new job postings in the last seven days across the employer boards we track, against 121 the week before. That is an increase of 72.7%, or 88 additional roles — a solid week in absolute terms, and a slow one relative to everything else on the board.

The comparison that matters: new postings across all boards we track went from 5,838 to 11,603 week over week, a jump of 98.7%. Minnesota grew at roughly three-quarters that rate. The result is that Minnesota claimed 1.8% of this week's new listings after holding 2.1% the week before. The state got busier; the rest of the country got busier faster.

Where Minnesota sits among the 12 states with activity

Our crawl currently shows openings in 12 states. Minnesota ranks 10th of those 12 by new postings this week, sitting between Massachusetts at 211 and Illinois at 206. California alone posted 1,045 — five times Minnesota's total.

On growth rate, Minnesota is near the back of the pack too. Only New York (+48.7%) and Illinois (+38.3%) moved less. Tennessee is the week's outlier by a wide margin, going from 47 postings to 277 — a rise of 489%, off a very small base.

What's driving the volume

The ten biggest posters this week across every board we crawl were VF Corporation (654 new, 897 open), AdventHealth (559 new, 991 open), Ranger Boats (399), Cleveland Clinic (320), Citigroup (313), Meijer (299), U.S. Bank (298 new and 1,010 open, the largest open book of any employer we track), Tyson Foods (238), Target (228) and Lifepoint Hospitals (216). These are national totals — our weekly employer counts aren't split by state, so treat them as the backdrop Minnesota's 209 postings sit against rather than a Minnesota roster.

Health systems and large-format retail account for five of those ten. Across all new postings this week, just 4% were remote.

The wider picture is softer than the week suggests

A doubling in weekly new postings sounds like a hiring surge, but two other numbers argue for restraint. Over the last seven days we logged 23,268 closed listings against 11,603 new ones — roughly two roles coming off the boards for every one going up. And on a 30-day view, new postings are down: 28,429 in the last 30 days versus 30,067 in the prior 30, a decline of 5.4%.

Pay context

Employer-posted salary ranges, annualized to USD, aren't broken out by state, but the national medians give a sense of where the top of the market sits. Engineering Manager leads at $280,000 across 234 listings, followed by Machine Learning Engineer at $267,500 (114 listings) and Product Manager at $247,300 (362 listings). Software Engineer has by far the deepest pool with a posted range, 1,263 listings, at a $240,000 median. At the other end, Sales Representative posts a $75,914 median across 162 listings.
