Massachusetts Posted 211 New Roles This Week, Up From 111 — But Slower Than the National Board

Massachusetts picked up 211 new job postings in the last seven days across the employer boards we track, up from 111 the week before. That is exactly 100 more roles, a 90% increase, and it places the state ninth out of the 12 states with new openings this week.

It also, quietly, means Massachusetts lost a little ground. The whole board added 11,603 new roles this week against 5,838 the prior week — a 99% jump. So the national week roughly doubled and Massachusetts didn't quite keep up. The state's share of new postings slipped from 1.9% to 1.8%.

Where Massachusetts sits among the states

Of the 12 states with new openings this week, Massachusetts sits in the middle of a tight cluster. Four states landed between 202 and 211 new roles: Massachusetts at 211, Minnesota at 209, Illinois at 206, and New Jersey at 202. A nine-posting gap separates first place in that group from last. Week to week, those four will trade positions on noise alone.

The real distance is above them. California added 1,045 new roles — five times the Massachusetts number — followed by Texas at 614, Florida at 444 and New York at 443.

On growth rate rather than volume, Massachusetts is also mid-pack. Tennessee went from 47 new postings to 277, the steepest climb on the list. Florida went 172 to 444, Ohio 125 to 318, and North Carolina 83 to 230 — all of them more than doubling. Massachusetts' 90% gain is closer to New York's 49% and Illinois' 38% than to the runaway states.

The wider week

The board-level picture is worth holding alongside the state number. There are 58,496 open listings from 684 employers hiring right now. But 23,268 postings closed in the last seven days against 11,603 opened — roughly two closures for every new role. The 30-day view is flatter than this week's doubling suggests: 28,429 new roles in the last 30 days versus 30,067 in the 30 before that, a slight step down.

Who is driving the national week

The biggest posters board-wide this week were VF Corporation with 654 new roles (897 open), AdventHealth with 559 (991 open), Ranger Boats with 399 (748 open), Cleveland Clinic with 320 (885 open) and Citigroup with 313 (472 open). U.S. Bank carries the largest single open book at 1,010 roles. Those are board-wide totals, not Massachusetts counts.
