Illinois Postings Jump to 243 This Week, Up 70% From the Prior Week

By Ben Garves

Illinois picked up 243 new job postings in the past seven days across the employer boards we track, up from 143 the week before. That is 100 more roles and a 69.9% increase — better than double the 32.9% rise recorded across all boards we track over the same stretch.

That puts Illinois seventh among states by new-posting volume this week, behind California (810), Texas (599), New York (480), Florida (468), Michigan (259) and Tennessee (252). Illinois accounts for roughly 2.5% of the 9,916 roles that opened this week on the boards we crawl.

How the week compares nationally

The national picture: 9,916 new listings this week against 7,459 the prior week. Our week-over-week comparison counts only boards we were already tracking before the comparison window opened, so newly onboarded employers never read as a hiring boom.

Illinois' 69.9% gain sits above that national line but is not the sharpest move on the board. Florida more than doubled, from 192 to 468 (+143.8%). Massachusetts went from 96 to 202 (+110.4%). North Carolina rose 85.5%. At the other end, Ohio added just 10 postings week over week (+6.1%) and Colorado 21 (+14.2%).

Week-over-week change in new postings, top 12 states

So Illinois is in the upper half of a broadly rising week — nine of the twelve states in our top list posted double-digit percentage gains. The rise is wide, not Illinois-specific.

What was hiring across the boards

Our employer and occupation counts run across all boards we track rather than state by state, but they show what kind of work opened during the same seven days.

On the employer side, AdventHealth led with 669 new postings against 992 open in total, followed by VF Corporation at 654 new (897 open) and Ranger Boats at 527 new (732 open). Financial employers were active too: Citigroup posted 313 and U.S. Bank 298, the latter sitting on 1,010 open roles — the largest open book in the top ten. Boeing and JLL each added 178.

By occupation, Software Engineer remained the single largest title at 65 new roles, though that is down from 70 the prior week. The sharper swings came further down the list:

Product Manager (21, down from 25) and Engineering Manager (13, down from 17) both slipped. These are small weekly counts, so a handful of postings moves the percentage a long way.

The most-requested skills in new listings were Python (91 mentions), SQL (58), Microsoft Excel (56) and Salesforce (56).

One caution on the wider board

New postings rose, but listings closed faster than they opened: 19,286 roles came down over the last seven days against 9,916 that went up, leaving 57,922 open listings from 686 employers hiring across 12 states with openings. Remote work stayed scarce in new postings at 5%.
