Florida Posted 477 New Roles This Week, Up 13 While Overall New Postings Fell 8%

By Ben Garves

Florida opened 477 new roles this week across the employer job boards Career App crawls, up from 464 the week before. That is a gain of 13 roles, or 2.8%. The same week, new roles across every state we track fell from 9,456 to 8,663, a drop of 793 roles or 8.4%.

So Florida did not grow much. It grew while most of the comparison set shrank, which is a different thing and the more interesting part of the week.

Florida vs. all tracked states, week over week

Florida against the other busy states

Twelve states logged 10 or more new roles each this week. Five of them were up on the prior week and seven were down. Florida sat in the up group, third by volume behind California at 821 and Texas at 529.

The sharpest moves were at the edges. Washington jumped from 132 new roles to 174, a 31.8% rise off a smaller base. Massachusetts went the other way, from 246 to 174, down 29.3%. Texas lost 82 roles week over week, the largest absolute decline in the group, and Ohio fell 15.7%, from 293 to 247.

Florida's 2.8% is the smallest percentage gain among the five states that rose. Measured in roles, its +13 beat Georgia at +14 only narrowly on percentage and trailed it by one role in count, and both sat well behind California's +36 and Washington's +42.

Week-over-week change in new roles, 12 busiest states

What is behind it

The employer counts we publish each week run across all the boards we crawl and are not split out by state, so no single company can be credited with Florida's 13-role gain. For scale on who was posting at all this week: AdventHealth led with 656 new roles and 1,001 open listings, followed by U.S. Bank at 387 new and Target at 279. Marriott International posted 205 new roles against 257 open listings, the tightest new-to-open ratio in the top ten, and Circle K posted 175 against 204 open.

Occupation-level counts for the week came in too thin to publish, so there is no ranked list of which job titles drove Florida's number.

The wider week

Florida's small rise landed in a week that was softer everywhere else. Across the boards we track, 8,663 roles opened in the last seven days and 10,470 closed. Closures trail the employer actually taking a role down by roughly a week, because we only see a role leave when we re-read that board, so the gap between those two figures is not a same-day reading of net hiring.

The monthly picture is flatter than the weekly one: 40,251 new roles in the last 30 days against 41,066 in the 30 before that, a decline of about 2%. The week-over-week comparison counts only boards we were already tracking beforehand, so a newly added employer cannot inflate the change.

Total open listings stand at 59,823 from 678 employers. Remote roles made up 4% of everything new this week.

One week of state data is a narrow window, and 13 roles is a narrow margin. If Florida holds above its prior-week number again next week while the broader count keeps sliding, the gap starts to mean something. For now it is a state that stayed flat while seven of its eleven peers in the group did not.
