California Posted 795 New Roles This Week, Down From 927 the Week Before
California opened 795 new roles this week across the employer job boards Career App tracks, down from 927 the week before. That is a drop of 132 roles, or 14.2%.
The number matters beyond California, because the total across every state fell by 285 roles this week: 8,647 new roles against 8,932 the prior week, a decline of 3.2%. California alone accounts for 132 of those 285 lost roles, or roughly 46% of the week's shortfall, from a state that supplied about 9% of new roles.

California slipped faster than the overall week
A 14.2% decline is more than four times the 3.2% change across all states. California's share of new roles fell from 10.4% last week to 9.2% this week.
It was not the steepest fall among the busiest states, though. New York dropped 198 roles, from 639 to 441, a 31% decline. By percentage, that is the week's hardest move among the states with the most new roles.
Here is how the twelve busiest states compare on volume this week.

The direction was not uniform. Five of the twelve posted more new roles than the week before:
- Ohio: 288, up from 223
- Indiana: 187, up from 131
- Massachusetts: 236, up from 193
- Georgia: 174, up from 143
- Michigan: 236, up from 229
The declines were concentrated in the four largest: California at 795 (from 927), Texas at 559 (from 629), New York at 441 (from 639), and Florida at 406 (from 476). Those four shed 470 roles between them, more than the total drop across all states, because the risers offset part of it. The week-over-week comparison counts only boards already being tracked before the comparison started, so a newly added board cannot inflate the swing.
Who was hiring
The week's biggest posters are reported across all the boards we crawl rather than state by state, so these counts are not California totals. Still, they set the shape of the week:
- AdventHealth: 611 new roles, 978 open
- Target: 330 new, 808 open
- Accenture: 328 new, 778 open
- Ranger Boats: 296 new, 747 open
- Meijer: 272 new, 652 open
- Cleveland Clinic: 225 new, 887 open
- JLL: 214 new, 335 open
- Marriott International: 203 new, 267 open
- Longs Drugs: 200 new, 216 open
- Lifepoint Hospitals: 176 new, 348 open
Two patterns stand out. Health systems take three of the top ten spots, with AdventHealth posting more new roles this week than every state except California and Texas. And Longs Drugs posted 200 new roles against 216 total open listings, meaning almost its entire visible board turned over inside the week. Marriott International is close behind at 203 of 267.
There is no occupation-level breakdown in this week's state data, so the honest level of detail for California stops at the volume and the comparison.
The wider picture
Across the boards we track there are 59,858 open listings from 680 employers hiring. In the last seven days, 8,647 roles opened and 10,369 closed, so closures outran openings by 1,722. Closures lag by about a week, since we only see a role come down when we next re-read the board. Remote roles were 5% of new postings.
