9,954 Roles Opened and 9,406 Closed This Week Across the Boards We Track

Slightly more roles opened than closed this week. Across the employer job boards we track, 9,406 roles came down in the last seven days while 9,954 went up, and the open pool stands at 57,599 listings from 685 employers hiring.

New postings were up: 9,954 this week against 9,072 the week before, a gain of 10%. Comparisons exclude boards we added mid-window, so onboarding a large employer never reads as a hiring boom.

Employer boards purge in batches, and a week with a big expiry sweep can retire far more listings than it adds without any change in hiring intent. Watch the new-postings line for signal; watch the closed line to understand why the open pool moves the way it does.

Where the new roles landed

These are the 12 states with the most new roles this week. California led with 876 new roles, followed by Texas at 641, up 20% over the prior week, and New York at 506, up 3%.

The steepest jumps came further down the list. Michigan went from 142 new roles to 248, up 75%, and Pennsylvania from 207 to 304, up 47%. Colorado rose 35%, 171 to 230, and New Jersey 32%, 170 to 224. The one flat spot was California: 876 new roles this week against 888 last week, essentially unchanged while everything around it climbed.

Who posted the most

AdventHealth put up 669 new roles this week, the most of any employer on the boards we track, out of 992 open. Merck followed with 368 new against 584 open, and U.S. Bank added 315 on top of the largest open pool in the top ten at 1,007.

Retail and food showed up in force: Target at 301 new, Meijer at 269, Tyson Foods at 223, and Longs Drugs at 210 — the last of which has 214 open listings total, meaning nearly its entire board turned over this week. Citigroup posted 289, Stryker Corporation 262, and Ranger Boats 237.

The top ten employers account for 3,143 new roles, about 32% of everything that opened this week. Concentration like that means a single company's posting cycle can swing the weekly total.

Remote, occupations and skills

Remote roles were 4% of new postings this week. With healthcare systems, grocery, food processing and bank branches driving the volume, that is about what the employer mix implies — these are jobs with a physical site attached.
