Traditional Climbing

Traditional climbing, or 'trad climbing,' is a form of rock climbing where climbers place their own removable protective gear (like cams and nuts) into cracks and features as they ascend, then remove it afterward, leaving the rock unaltered. This contrasts with sport climbing's fixed bolts and requires greater self-reliance, route-finding skill, and gear knowledge. It appeals to climbers who value adventure, minimal environmental impact, and the mental challenge of protecting their own route.
