Multi-Pitch Climbing
Multi-pitch climbing is a form of rock climbing in which a route is too tall to be climbed with a single rope length, so climbers ascend it in successive stages, or "pitches," with the leader building an anchor at the top of each pitch before belaying their partner up. It requires skills beyond single-pitch cragging, including rope management, anchor building, and route-finding over sustained, often multi-hour or multi-day ascents. Climbers pursue it for the experience of tackling big walls and long alpine routes rather than short, single-rope-length climbs.
