Steer Roping

Steer roping is a rodeo event in which a mounted cowboy ropes a running steer around the horns, then dismounts to flank and tie three of its legs together as quickly as possible. It descends from actual ranch work used to catch and treat cattle, and it tests a cowboy's roping accuracy, horsemanship, and speed. Because of animal welfare concerns, it is less common today and banned in some jurisdictions.
