Breakaway Roping

Breakaway roping is a rodeo event, popular especially among women and youth competitors, in which a rider on horseback ropes a running calf and the rope is designed to break away from the saddle horn once the calf is caught, stopping the clock. Unlike traditional calf roping, it doesn't require the calf to be thrown and tied, making it faster-paced and considered gentler on the animal. It has grown rapidly in popularity and is now featured at major rodeos and even the National Finals Rodeo.
