Roping

Roping refers to the use of a lariat or lasso to catch and restrain livestock, most commonly cattle, and forms the basis of rodeo events such as calf roping and team roping. It originated from working ranch skills used by cowboys to manage cattle, and today is practiced both as practical ranch work and as a competitive rodeo sport requiring precision, speed, and horsemanship. It appeals to those drawn to Western ranching culture and equestrian sport.
