Schwingen

Schwingen, or Swiss wrestling, is a traditional folk wrestling style from Switzerland in which two competitors grip each other's loose burlap wrestling shorts (Schwingerhosen) worn over their pants and try to throw each other to the ground so that both shoulder blades touch a sawdust-covered ring. It is a major cultural event in rural Switzerland, culminating in the Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest, a national festival drawing huge crowds. Winners are traditionally honored with prizes like a live bull rather than cash.
