Pigeon Racing

Pigeon racing is a competitive sport in which specially bred and trained homing pigeons are released from a common distant point and timed racing back to their individual home lofts, with the winner determined by average speed rather than order of arrival. Fanciers invest heavily in breeding, training, and feeding pigeons believed to have superior navigational ability and stamina, and races can cover hundreds of miles. It has a long history and dedicated following in Europe, especially Belgium and the UK, as well as in parts of the United States and Asia.
