Para-Equestrian

Para-equestrian is competitive horseback riding for athletes with physical, visual, or intellectual impairments, primarily contested as dressage (and increasingly driving), where riders guide their horse through prescribed movements and patterns judged on precision, harmony, and technique. Riders are classified into grades based on the degree of impairment, with allowances such as connecting reins or dispensation to carry a whip. It has been part of the Paralympic Games since 1996 and appeals to participants for the deep partnership it builds between rider and horse.
