Melodica

The melodica is a small, handheld free-reed instrument with a keyboard on top and a mouthpiece through which the player blows air to sound the reeds, similar to a cross between a piano and a harmonica. Invented in the mid-20th century, it is popular in music education, reggae and dub music (notably by Augustus Pablo), and as a portable, affordable instrument for composers and hobbyists. Its simple keyboard makes it accessible to pianists and beginners alike.
