Khon

Khon is a classical Thai masked dance-drama that stages episodes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Indian Ramayana epic. Performers wear ornate costumes and painted or gilded masks representing gods, demons, monkeys, and humans, and the highly stylized movements are accompanied by a piphat orchestra and narrative chanting; it is recognized by UNESCO as an element of intangible cultural heritage.
