Iaijutsu

Iaijutsu is the older, classical term for the Japanese martial art of sword-drawing, referring to techniques developed by samurai for instantly drawing a katana and striking down an opponent in a single fluid motion. It is considered the historical precursor to the modern art of iaido, with roots tracing back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Traditional iaijutsu schools (ryu) emphasized practical combat application, whereas modern iaido descended from it with a greater focus on form, etiquette, and personal development.
