High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which athletes attempt to clear a horizontal bar set at increasing heights without knocking it down, landing on a cushioned mat. Since the 1960s, most elite jumpers use the 'Fosbury Flop' technique, popularized by Dick Fosbury, in which the athlete arches backward over the bar head-first. It is a standard event at the Olympics and other major athletics competitions, testing an athlete's explosive leg power, technique, and body control.
