Gong

A gong is a percussion instrument consisting of a flat, circular metal disc, usually bronze or brass, that produces a resonant tone when struck with a mallet. Originating in East and Southeast Asia (notably China, Indonesia, and Myanmar), gongs are used in orchestral music, gamelan ensembles, religious ceremonies, and signaling. They range from small, high-pitched versions to large, deep-toned tam-tams used for dramatic effect in Western orchestral music.
