Combat De Reines

Combat de Reines, or "Battle of the Queens," is a traditional cattle-fighting event from the Valais canton of Switzerland involving Herens cows, a breed naturally inclined to establish dominance hierarchies through head-butting contests. Cows are paired off in a ring where they push against each other head-to-head until one backs away or retreats, with the unbeaten cow crowned "queen"; no injury is intentionally inflicted and the behavior mirrors natural herd dynamics. It's a popular regional tradition drawing large crowds to spring qualifying rounds and an autumn final.
