Spider Fighting

Spider fighting is a traditional recreational activity, especially popular among children in parts of Southeast Asia (such as the Philippines and Singapore) and the Caribbean, in which two spiders—often specific aggressive species kept and fed for the purpose—are placed on a stick or in a small arena to fight, with spectators betting on or simply enjoying the outcome. It has a long folk history as a low-cost pastime using easily caught local insects rather than purpose-bred animals.
