Cockfighting

Cockfighting is a blood sport in which two specially bred and trained roosters (gamecocks), sometimes fitted with metal spurs, are placed in a ring to fight, often until one is killed or seriously injured. It has an ancient history across many cultures and was once a widely popular spectator and gambling pastime, but it is now illegal in most countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, due to concerns about animal cruelty. It persists illegally or in limited legal forms in some regions, often associated with gambling.
