Big Apple

The Big Apple is a group swing dance that originated among African American communities in South Carolina in the 1930s and became a nationwide dance craze later that decade. Danced in a circle with a caller directing participants through a sequence of steps and figures borrowed from the Charleston, Lindy Hop, and other social dances, it is considered a forerunner of modern line dancing.
