Women's Association Football

Women's association football (women's soccer) is the sport of football played by women's teams under the same laws of the game as the men's sport, governed internationally by FIFA, with marquee competitions including the FIFA Women's World Cup and continental championships like the UEFA Women's Euro. It has grown rapidly in professionalism, attendance, and broadcast coverage since the 1990s, spurred by leagues such as the NWSL and Women's Super League. The sport has also had to overcome historical bans and underinvestment in many countries to reach its current mainstream popularity.
