Telemark Skiing

Telemark skiing is a form of downhill skiing that uses a free-heel binding, allowing the skier's heel to lift off the ski, and is characterized by a distinctive lunging turn in which one knee bends deeply toward the ski while the other leg trails behind. It originated in the Telemark region of Norway in the 19th century and predates modern fixed-heel alpine skiing. The sport is prized by enthusiasts for its graceful, dynamic turning style and the added technical challenge compared to alpine skiing.
