Synthesizer

A synthesizer is an electronic musical instrument that generates and shapes sound using oscillators, filters, and amplifiers, either through analog circuitry or digital signal processing. Musicians and producers use synthesizers to create everything from realistic instrument emulations to entirely novel sounds, and they are foundational to genres like electronic dance music, synth-pop, and film scoring. Hobbyists are often drawn to synth programming as a creative outlet, tweaking knobs and patch cables (in modular setups) to sculpt unique timbres.
