Sursingar

The sursingar is a plucked, fretless string instrument in North Indian (Hindustani) classical music, developed in the 19th century as a hybrid of the sarod and been (rudra veena) designed to better suit slow, meditative dhrupad-style playing. It has largely fallen out of common use today, overshadowed by the sarod, but is occasionally revived by specialist musicians and instrument historians.
