Subak

Subak is a traditional Balinese system of water management and cooperative irrigation used to sustain the island's rice terraces, coordinated through farmer associations tied to water temples. Rooted in the Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana (harmony among people, nature, and the spiritual realm), it governs the equitable sharing of water among farmers across a watershed. UNESCO recognized the Subak system as a World Heritage cultural landscape in 2012 for its ecological and cultural significance.
